DID YOU KNOW ?
- I can make up to 115 liters of beer (14 cases
of 24) at one time but the most I've made
is 69 liters (8.5 cases).
- It takes about 10 days to make the beer,
then it has to be bottled for at
least 2
weeks before it carbonates.
- I've made some of my own brewing equipment.
- Sonia and I are Sleeman Breweries shareholders,
so buy lots of that brand
- My favourite beers are dark English ales.
- Sonia's great (times 12) grandfather, Louis
Hebert, was the first person to brew
beer
in Canada
PLACES I RECOMMEND
- GAHAN HOUSE. A brewpub in PEI. Located in
an old building with English pub
atmosphere.
They are the only
brewers in PEI, you can see the brewery in
the basement. Don't think you can try a pint
of each of the approx. 6
beers they make? They have a sampler
try
with a small glass of each. You can
even
pick your favourite beer and
they will fill up a jug for you to take home.
Located at 126 Sydney St, Charlottetown,
Prince Edward Island.
- KEITH'S BREWERY. You can take a tour of the
original building, now restored.
They still
make small batches of
specialty beers there. The tour ends
in a
18th century style pub where you
can sample
2 of the beers. One of the
best tourist attractions in Halifax.
Located
at 1496 Lower Water St, Halifax,
Nova Scotia.
- SPINNAKERS BREWPUB. The first modern brewpub
in Canada. You can grab a seat with
a nice
view of the
harbour and try one of the many excellent
beers they make. You can't miss this
place
because of the window on
the front with all the brewing equipment
on display. Located at 308 Catherine
St,
Victoria, British Columbia.
